The Unexpected Guest: Nourishing the Body and Soul with Organic Goodness

The Unexpected Guest: Nourishing the Body and Soul with Organic Goodness

The Unexpected Guest is more than just a name; it is a philosophy deeply rooted in the values of hospitality and community. This First Nations-owned and operated business, led by proud Wailwan descendant Jenny Khan, brings the essence of Australian certified organic granola and gluten-friendly muesli to your table, ensuring every bite is naturally good and free from refined sugars.

Inspired by the spirit of 'welcoming'

The idea behind The Unexpected Guest was inspired by the simple yet profound value of 'always making room at your table for the unexpected guest'. This philosophy reflects the importance of strong values and a welcoming spirit. “We wanted to create a range of products that are not only wholesome and organic but also support Australian farmers and small businesses,” said Jenny.

Celebrating wholesome goodness

The Unexpected Guest is dedicated to producing foods that are organic, clean, and healthy. Their commitment to sustainability is evident in every product they offer - from granola to muesli, each item is crafted with care, infused with Australian Indigenous Botanicals, and designed to nourish both the body and the soul. When asked to choose a favourite product, Jenny told us about her fondness for products featuring myrtle. "The unique flavour of lemon myrtle in our granola and muesli is something our customers absolutely love," she said.

Supporting other First Nations businesses and employment

An aspect Jenny finds most rewarding is purchasing Australian Indigenous Botanicals from other First Nations businesses. “We always get excited to purchase the Australian Indigenous Botanicals from other First Nations businesses,” she shared. This not only supports these small businesses, but also ensures that products are enriched with unique and authentic flavours.

Jenny also takes pride in employing First Nations people within the business. “Being able to employ First Nations people in our business is a major value and goal,” she explained. This commitment to community and empowerment is a cornerstone of The Unexpected Guest's operations.

Growing their national footprint with Stockland Marketplace

The Unexpected Guest goes beyond being just a food business; it is a celebration of culture, community, and healthy living that hopes to foster connections across Australia. They chose to join Stockland Marketplace because of its strong reputation and commitment to supporting First Nations businesses. "Stockland Marketplace exposes our brand and products to people right across the country" Jenny explained.
