Celebrating Culture with Every Doll: The Dollies Tribe Story

Celebrating Culture with Every Doll: The Dollies Tribe Story

A Legacy of Love and Pride: Savannah & Maryanne's Journey

“Dollies Tribe isn’t just a store; it’s a celebration of our identity,” says Savannah, the young co-founder of Dollies Tribe & Co. As proud Bundjalung women, Savannah and her mother Maryanne have created a space that not only cherishes the beauty of Aboriginal culture but also shares it with the world through each meticulously hand painted doll. At the core of Dollies Tribe lies a narrative interlaced with the rich, colorful threads of Aboriginal heritage and the unyielding strength of family ties.
Savannah, the inspiration behind the brand, and her mother Maryanne believe that "Aboriginality is not just a physical trait; it's the essence of our being, inherited from our ancestors". Their dolls are more than toys; they're a tribute to the rich tapestry of First Nations peoples.

A store with a soul

When asked about their store, the duo's faces light up. "It's a place where everyone is family. We're thrilled to see the community's love for Savannah's vision" Maryanne shares. The inception of Dollies Tribe traces back to a soulful pilgrimage to Baryugil, the birthplace of Savannah’s granny. This spiritual journey ignited a spark that evolved from the humble beginnings of Jarjumdollies into a beacon of cultural pride. Dollies Tribe stands as a tribute to Granny Peggy, whose nickname for Savannah, ‘Dollie,’ and the term ‘Jarjum’—meaning child in Bundjalung—echo through each creation.

The store is a haven of inclusivity, where every First Nations person can find a doll that resonates with their spirit. "Our Jarjumdollies are symbols of love, care, and beauty", Savannah explains. These three words encapsulate the essence of Dollies Tribe and their mission to make every child feel seen and celebrated.

The doll that captured hearts

The Tilli Dollie, with her vibrant pink charm, has become a customer favourite. "We aim to create dolls that reflect the wonderful diversity of our people", says Savannah. Each doll is a story, a connection, and a piece of joy waiting to be shared.

Moments to cherish

For Savannah and Maryanne, the real reward is witnessing the joy their dolls bring. "Seeing the smiles and excitement on the children's faces when unboxing their Dollies Tribe dolls is priceless," they agree. It's these moments that fuel their passion and commitment to their craft.
